This bracket is essential to the proper running of your engine. The only method for the water pump to move in the closed position is through the impeller movement induced by spinning the engine. This bracket has one of two basic components: either the bearing surface that supports the crankshaft or a cushion (typically rubber) linked to it with an agitator when the pump is not in use to keep it from touching other moving items.
